This is the essential Music Together^®® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five—and through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together.

Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing, or exploring musical instruments. We welcome the whole family to join in this important family music experience and any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Each semester includes:

* Weekly 45-minute classes teaching a new song collection every fall, winter and spring.
* New CD's each semester with the songs, rhythm chants, "play-alongs", tonal and rhythm patterns used in class.

Your 5-, 6-, or 7-year old is developing quickly and exploring new activities, mastering new skills, and gaining independence. As a parent, you may be making choices about extracurricular activities that complement their new school experiences and support their growth - in music and in life. The Music Together Big Kids Program helps your child take a next step in music development by blending the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for 5- through 7-year-old children.

Through family music-making, Music Together mixed-age classes support the development of tonal and rhythm competence for infants through 4-year-old children. In contrast, Big Kids classes lay the foundation for Basic Music Literacy, complementing formal music instruction in school or in private instrument lessons, as well as a lifetime of joyful music making.


* Classes are 60 minutes long and meet weekly for ten weeks, three semesters per year. Since the program provides a cumulative learning sequence, a minimum of three semesters is recommended, with six or more preferred.
* During class, children learn musical skills and appreciation through a special Music Together curriculum developed just for 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds. Every family enrolled in class receives a Music Together Big Kids edition songbook with activities specially created for 5-7-year-olds, two copies of the recording, and weekly HomePlay activity pages.
* Younger children are not developmentally ready for the structure of a Big Kids class. To be eligible, your child must have turned 5 by the first day of class.
* While this can be a "drop-off" class, you (or another caregiver) should plan to attend your child's first class, and attend the last class of each semester. You may attend any and all classes if you wish. However, due to the structure of the Big Kids class, we cannot accommodate younger siblings (except for babies younger than eight months). You and any younger siblings are welcome and encouraged to join the last 10 minutes of every class.

Musical Parties are so much fun for both children and adults. The session lasts about 45 minutes. First we sing hello to all the children by name. Next we go through a set of songs, some familiar, some new, some requests, but all simple and easy to follow along with. Some songs will have movements that go with them; other songs will be sung while playing egg shakers or sticks. We will dance with ribbons to fun, upbeat songs. The highlight is the jam session toward the end of the program where everyone at the party finds an instrument to play from the assortment and we all jam together. We finish with the goodbye song and a grand finale of "Happy Birthday" to the birthday child. Our music specialist brings all the instruments, props and music. All you need to provide is a space for the party. $200 (birthday child will receive a $25 It's Groovy Baby class gift certificate and each child attending will receive a $10 gift certificate for a future It's Groovy Baby class. It's a blast for everyone at the party.
